Northfin Fish food
As a keeper of Cichlids, I have been familiar with Northfin foods for a while.
As a Fishkeeping enthusiast, I am always on the lookout for high-quality foods that contain what is best for my fish.
Northfin delivers this. They produce high-quality fish foods that are easily digested and provide all the nutrition that your fish need. On top of this, they are packed with natural colour enhancing ingredients to keep your fish looking at their best.
They love it and it keeps them in tip-top condition. The only issue I had with it was pellet size, some of my fish are 10 – 12 inches, so it takes a lot of 3mm pellets to fill them.
The solution to this minor issue is Northfin Jumbo.
Northfin Jumbo is designed for larger aquarium fish, but it is suitable for all types of carnivorous and omnivorous ornamental fish.
The ingredients used are mostly the same as those used in their cichlid food, but the pellet size is larger, which is much better for larger fish as you don’t need to fill the tank with tiny pellets.
It is available in 4mm and 6mm pellet size so it should suit any fish from 6 inches +.
As I mentioned, I have been feeding Northfin for a while now as I was very impressed with their list of top quality, colour enhancing ingredients.
Here are some of the standouts from Northfin:
Antarctic Krill – Krill contains high quality protein, amino acids, vitamins, and minerals. It is also a natural source of carotenoids, which bring out the rich and vibrant colours of your fish. Contains a high concentration of Astaxanthin which is a powerful natural pigment and antioxidant.
High DHA Omega-3 Whole Herring Meal – The highest grade fish meal, Whole Herring Meal contains a higher concentration of DHA which promotes healthy development, growth, and colouration in fish. Freshly caught and frozen.
Whole Sardine Meal – Very important and beneficial ingredient, which provides your fish with not just fully digested and absorbed proteins, but also with the following nutrients: Vitamin B12, Selenium, Phosphorus, Vitamin D, Calcium, Vitamin B3, Iodine, Copper, Choline, Vitamin B2.
Sardine and Herring meals are one of the most concentrated sources of the omega-3 fatty acids EPA and DHA.
Certified Organic Kelp – A type of marine seaweed, Kelp supplies approximately 60 minerals, 21 amino acids, and 12 vitamins. It also provides nitrogen, potassium, and micro-nutrients. Improves the overall health and activity of your fish.
Spirulina – This 100% natural blue-green algae is packed with raw proteins and a wide range of vitamins and minerals to promote optimal health and improve immune function. It also contains beta-carotene and other natural pigments for colour enhancement.
Calcium Montmorillonite Clay – Contains 67 minerals including calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, potassium, silica, and more. Also provides essential trace elements. Helps compensate for previous dietary deficiencies. It has been proven effective in the removal of mycotoxins, fungi, heavy metal, and other toxins from the intestinal tracks of animals.

Great ingredients are great, but it is important to me too that my fish enjoy their food. Sometimes though, it’s hard to tell, but not with this stuff.
Since I brought him home and have been feeding him Northfin too, he has gone off the Hikari and will now only eat the Northfin pellets. That’s as good an indication as any to me that he loves the Northfin Cichlid and Jumbo formula.
Northfin are based in Canada and was founded by Mr Darius Chodocinskas, who has plenty of experience in fish keeping.
They are Canada’s first premium ornamental fish food that is 100% filler, artificial hormone and pigment free.
